Royal Botanical Garden,Peradeniya
Six years after the English had left the Kandyan Kingdom, the Royal Botanic Gardens at Peradeniya were founded in 1821. With the exception of the south, where it is bordered by the major road, the site is surrounded by a loop of the river Mahaweli. The 61.25 hectare area is approximately 1550 feet above sea level. The gardens today contain more than 4000 varieties of plants, including woody trees, palms, ferns, orchids, and shrubs.
